Michael Broughton is the All-Star Games Director for the IndyStar Indiana All-Stars, overseeing the evaluation, selection, and recognition of Indiana’s best high school senior basketball players for the prestigious Indiana–Kentucky All-Star series. In this role, he works closely with coaches, media, and school officials across the state to identify “the best of the best” seniors and to organize showcase events that highlight Indiana’s rich basketball tradition. His leadership continues a long legacy of the Indiana All-Star program, maintaining its status as one of the most respected high school all-star platforms in the country.
Michael “Mike” Broughton is a veteran basketball coach and the longtime games director of the IndyStar Indiana All Stars, known for his winning programs in Indiana as well as successful coaching stops in Nebraska and Oklahoma. Over more than four decades in the game, he’s built a reputation not only for championships and player development, but also for being a steady mentor who cares deeply about the kids, families, and communities that surround Indiana high school basketball.
Coaching Journey A Hebron High School graduate who scored 1,018 career points for the Hawks, Broughton went on to start at Indiana Wesleyan College, leading the team in assists and learning the value of unselfish play. That mindset carried into a 21 year varsity coaching career, where he compiled a 350–145 record, winning nine sectionals, five regionals, three semi states, and the 1993 Indiana state championship at Jeffersonville High School; from 1990–2000 his Jeffersonville teams led the state with 210 wins and an 83.7% winning percentage. He also guided Hebron High School to a 30–13 mark over two seasons, capturing both the Porter County Conference round robin and South County Tournament titles, and later moved into college coaching with roles at the University of Nebraska and Southern Nazarene University in Oklahoma, where his teams produced multiple 20 win seasons and National Tournament appearances. Players and fellow coaches often describe Broughton as detailed, prepared, and direct—but always approachable, with a knack for telling the right story or sharing the right lesson at the right time.
Indiana All Stars Leadership Since being named IndyStar Indiana All-Star Games Director in 2018, Broughton has led the selection and organization of Indiana’s prestigious boys and girls All-Star teams. He spends countless hours in gyms evaluating talent, talking with coaches, and advocating for seniors across the state, making sure the All-Star experience reflects both the tradition of Indiana basketball and the personality of each group of players.
For Broughton, the role is about more than picking rosters; it’s about celebrating the journey from youth leagues to the All-Star stage and helping student athletes finish their high school careers with a memorable, first-class experience.
Honors, Family, and Community Inducted into the Indiana High School Basketball Hall of Fame in 2012, Broughton is widely respected for the way he combines competitive fire with genuine care for people. He and his wife, Pat, honor their Hebron roots through annual scholarships awarded to a senior boy and girl at Hebron High School, a tradition that reflects their belief that the game should open doors in the classroom and in life.
Whether he’s watching film, working an All-Star practice, or speaking with coaches around Indiana, Broughton’s focus remains the same: help young men and women grow, represent their communities with pride, and carry the lessons of basketball forward long after the last buzzer sounds.
