Our Story

The Indiana All-Star basketball “story” is a long-running tradition where Indiana’s best high school seniors play Kentucky’s best in an annual series that’s become a symbol of Hoosier basketball pride and history. Origins and tradition The Kentucky–Indiana All-Star Game was established in 1940 and has been played every summer since, making it one of the oldest continuously running high school all-star events in the country. Over decades, it has evolved into a marquee showcase for Indiana’s top graduating seniors, with the series records and rivalries becoming part of the state’s basketball folklore. Indiana All-Stars as a legacy Each year, a select group of boys and girls are named “Indiana All-Stars,” joining a list that includes legends like Larry Bird and other future college and NBA players. For many players, wearing the Indiana All-Star jersey and competing against Kentucky is seen as the final chapter of their high school careers and a major milestone in their basketball journey. Modern series and dominance The series is played as home-and-home doubleheaders, with games in both states, and Indiana has historically held a strong winning record over Kentucky, including recent sweeps. Box scores, MVP performances, and big moments from these games are regularly highlighted by local media and social channels, keeping the story alive for new generations of fans and players. Cultural impact in Indiana The All-Star series fits into Indiana’s broader “basketball story” — a statewide identity built on high school gyms, legends, murals, and community events that celebrate the game. Because of that, the Indiana All-Stars are not just a team; they’re part of a narrative about what basketball means in the state, from small towns to big arenas.
